Professor Brodaty is internationally recognised as a pioneer in dementia diagnosis, treatment and prevention, and his life’s work has had a profound impact on the lives of older Australians, their families and carers. Over several decades, he has led groundbreaking research, shaped national policy, and advocated tirelessly for people living with dementia to receive compassionate, evidence-based care.
As a clinician, researcher and educator, Professor Brodaty has helped transform how dementia is understood and managed; moving the conversation beyond diagnosis to quality of life, carer support and dignity in ageing. His leadership has influenced aged care services, health professionals and communities across Australia and around the world.
At Leigh Place, his recognition resonates deeply. Many of our residents live with dementia or have been affected by it through loved ones. The work of leaders like Professor Brodaty has helped create the foundations for better care, improved understanding, and a more inclusive society for people living with cognitive change.
The Senior Australian of the Year Award celebrates Australians aged 65 and over who continue to make an outstanding contribution to the nation. Professor Brodaty’s achievement is a powerful reminder that experience, knowledge and dedication can drive meaningful change at any stage of life.
